The isolation of a wild Korean forest darken’s artist Joanne Nam’s memories of childhood, and I feel a sense of foreboding and loneliness from this oil painting. Presenting such a culturally foreign context to an American audience with the hope of communicating authentically is inspiring to me. I sometimes wonder if knowledge of my diverse heritage can be portrayed to my social sphere, and if this component of my identity is adequately communicated.
